Frank Stewart - Distinguished
Service Award (People)
First awarded in 1985, the Frank Stewart Award is the most prestigious
individual award bestowed by Parks and Leisure Australia with
an eminent group of past recipients having been recognised by
their peers for the significant contribution they have made to
the development, promotion and advocacy of the parks and leisure
industry through their personal and professional endeavours. A
Frank Stewart Award winner will receive Honorary Life membership
to PLA and a commemorative plaque acknowledging the awarding of
this prestigious honour.
Frank Stewart was the first Federal Government Minister of Recreation.
As a member of the then Whitlam Government, he demonstrated an
excellent understanding of the importance of community recreation
as a lifestyle experience. The values and principles of community
recreation he introduced were adopted and supported by both State
