PRAV Awards



Playground & Recreation Association Victoria (PRAV) is a not-for-profit, membership based organisation that was established in 1913. Over the years it has influenced and created awareness about the importance of safe and developmentally appropriate play experiences for children.

It supports and works with many different people and agencies in the community, including local government, schools, early childhood centres, playground designers and landscapers, playground manufacturers. In fact, anyone who has an interest in children and outdoor play experiences

These awards aim to promote good practice and innovation in the creation of outdoor play spaces for everyone.

Eligibility Criteria

Nominations must:

  • Be a current individual member or corporate member of PLA,
  • AND a current member of PRAV
  • Be nominated by a PLA individual or corporate member or current member of PRAV;
  • Nominate a project or process that has been developed within the 18 months preceding July 2008;
  • Nominate a project or process which demonstrates innovative play space solutions.

Judging Criteria

Judges will take into consideration the following:

  • Innovative and creative features of the project or process including:
    • Integration of art/cultural influences
    • Innovative use of materials
    • Creative solutions to ordinary problems
    • Creative ways of providing for different or unusual types of play experiences
    • Commitment to sustainability principles, and
    • Commitment to integration with the natural environment.
  • Process and Design
    • Planning and development process
    • Community consultation and participation
    • Variety of play experiences that match the needs
    • Design, layout and construction quality
    • Suitability for potential users (age-groups and ability level)
    • Value for money in the provision of quality play
    • Accessibility for all
    • Environmentally sensitive design and construction principles

Nomination Checklist

Have you included:

  • A Power Point presentation document (Maximum five (5) mg – 15 slides) which consists of:
    • Title page (Category of award, project, name of contact person, name of organisation, contact phone number, email address, and mailing address);
    • A photo of the team / key persons involved (must be in jpeg format);
    • An indication of the project budget;
    • The names of the project manager/s, designer/s and builder for the project, and other appropriate persons, location of project;
    • Supporting material can be submitted in either Word or PDF format, with charts, brochures, certificates, awards, media stories, citations, reports, sketches or statements from referees.

Please note:

  • This nomination is to be used for review and information only;
  • That any other supplementary printed matter, DVD’s or additional presentations are not required, and will not be considered by the judging panel
  • Please do not include any information you need returned to you or you do not want published;
  • All information received remains the property of PLA/PRAV;
  • Separate applications are required for each different award nomination lodged, and
  • An electronic letter will be sent to each applicant acknowledging receipt of the nomination.
